Your Health And Happiness

If you're gearing up to move to Akron, Ohio, you probably don't have a lot of time left over to worry about staying happy and healthy while you're still in Oakville. Dentists' visits, checkups at the doctor, relaxation days, and even planning for safety can all wait until the move is complete. We'll let you get away with that for now, but once you get settled in Akron we want you to promise you'll take the time to look after yourself. If you haven't been doing so, it's time to start. Here are some places you can begin.

Staying Healthy

Whether you're healthy or unhealthy at the moment, you should visit your doctor regularly. Having worked as a nurse for a company that did home health care in Saint John does not make you an expert. Even doctors need to see other doctors. Also on your list should be the dentist (every six months to one year) and the eye doctor (every year.) Take your doctor's advice on exercise and healthy eating and remember to allow yourself the occasional indulgence for the sake of your happiness.

Staying Happy

Mental health is an important part of overall health. If you're feeling overwhelmed or depressed, don't be afraid or embarrassed to seek professional help. Since an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, remember to actually relax on your days off. No grocery shopping or taking the car in for collision repair. Vancouver experts agree: doing activities you think are fun, even if it's just sitting on the couch watching your favorite TV show, is the number one way to stay happy.

Safety at Work

Most workplaces have to be certified under the occupational health and safety act, but often workers will eschew the recommended protections, such as a breathing apparatus, hard hats, or x-ray protection because they believe it makes them seem tougher. If you're one of them, you must decide whether to seem tough in your own estimation or stupid in everyone else's. Also keep in mind that you might not qualify for workers compensation benefits if you have an accident while using unsafe or unapproved methods.

Safety at Home

Safety isn't just something you should be concerned with if you have small children who might drink cleaning chemicals or fall on sharp furniture corners. It also means using common sense in your everyday life. Make sure you know what you're doing before attempting any repairs or upkeep, such as electrical work or replacing a boiler water treatment chemical. When in doubt, call in a professional. Just in case an accident does occur, make sure you have a friend with you to call for assistance or at least a phone nearby.
