Renovate Or Redecorate

With the real estate market in its current dire state, it''s becoming increasingly difficult to sell homes no matter where you live. Simply stating that your home has a central heating boiler just isn''t enough to generate interest among buyers anymore, not with so many homes on the market. Therefore if you''re thinking of selling your home you can either accept that you''re going to have to accept much less than you would like or update your home to make it more attractive. Most people want as much as they can get, so Akron home owners must decide whether they want to renovate or redecorate their home before listing it to sell.

What is Renovating?

Renovating is the process by which you alter the layout of your home. This can include building an addition to increase the number of bedrooms, knocking down the walls between the kitchen and dining room to create a more open plan space, and anything in between. Unless you have building experience, you''ll need to hire a contractor to plan the additions or changes, as well as a tradesman to do the actual work, like a plumber or deck builder. Maine and Ohio sometimes offer tax credits or rebates to homeowners upgrading their homes, so it''s worth it to check with your local and state government representative to see if you quality.

What is Redecorating?

When you redecorate, you change the feel or atmosphere of your home by replacing old artwork, furniture, wallpapers, flooring, etc with new ones, generally in some sort of coordinating scheme. Graduates of a faux painting school might opt to replicate some old master paintings for their living room to give the place a more European feel while gardeners might bring in some choice house plants to brighten the space. When redecorating, you don''t actually change the layout of the house, rather, the impression it makes on others when they enter it.

What are My Options?

If your home has structural issues that need to be fixed, such as a leak in the roof or a hole in the wall, your obvious choice would be to renovate. No one is going to buy a spaceship in need of airlock repair, and no one is going to want your house if they''re worried the roof might fall in. You must fix these problems before you sell, so you might as well upgrade your home at the same time. Conversely, if you''re on a tight schedule or budget, you may have no other choice but to redecorate and hope it makes the home appealing enough.

If you have the time and money and your house is in good shape, you can either choose between the two based on your preference and the level of energy you''re willing to commit to the project, or you can go for both. While renovating your house and hanging stylish wall lettering are attractive to buyers on their own, the effect on a potential buyer will be more than double if they are combined competently and with a keen eye to what''s popular.
