Lane-Wooster, in the west has a proud African American heritage. The area has recently had an urban facelift and is now also home to the Akron Zoo and Miller South School for the Performing Arts. Merriman Valley in the west offers a mix of real estate options. It includes the parkland areas around the river and has many restaurants, theaters, and small shops. University Park, AKA "Spicertown" is in the east. It is home to the main campus of the University of Akron campus and the office buildings along the Wolf-Ledges parkway.
